Charlie took off at half past seven,
his plane was due in at eleven,
and Kielbasa said he’d him at the airport.
They’d not seen each other for 6 years,
Kielbasa had expressed some fears,
but Charlie only had one positive thought.

They were best friends,
no ifs, buts or pretends,
and were bonded by trust.
They cared about each other,
like brother caring about brother,
driven by friendship, not I must!

My first day in Poland.

Well after I arrived at the airport,
and exactly as I’d thought,
Kielbasa was waiting for my flight.
It was great to see him gain,
he looked exactly the same,
he told me of his plans for that night.

I’d never been in a Fiat 126 before,
it felt as if I was sitting on the floor,
and his driving was still very bad,
Our little car was darting in and out,
and of one fact there was no doubt,
to survive driving here, you had to be mad.

We headed for his home in Otwock,
the only city in Poland to have a Mosque,
and somewhere I’d been told was very pretty.
The population are warm and kind,
more friendly people you’ll never find,
a village atmosphere, yet it’s a city.

On Tuesday I visited many places in Warsaw,
Museums and Old Town where I had a guided tour.

I drank amazing Piwa and ate traditional pierogi,
and fell in love with a woman walking her doggy.

She was tall, she was slim and stunning in every way,
I wanted to talk to her, but what words could I say!

So I just looked, I stared, as she gracefully walked past,
women is Warsaw make your heart beat very fast.

Later that day I saw a Polish movie in Promenada,
and on the way there we had a bump with a Lada.

A few hundred zloty and everything was sorted,
no damage, no one hurt, nothing to be reported.

Wednesday was amazing we travelled to Krakow city,
but we only had 6 hours there, which was such a pity.

It’s beautiful, it’s romantic, it’s a city full of cultural delights.
I was sad to leave, but I’ll be back to spend a couple of nights.

Friday 21st December 2007
Today Gdansk, visiting shops on the river banks,
and the markets famous for their jewels.
A place where new and old meet, and on the street,
people walking, driving and riding mules.

Saturday I fly back to Wensleydale,
with fond memories and a great tale,
of my journey to this interesting land.
The Polish people are warm and kind,
the most hospitable you'll ever find,
I really loved my time in Poland.

The people, the places, the beautiful faces,
the culture and all there is to see.
But I’m glad to be going home,
Wensleydale Vale is the only place for me.
